Lucas Ribeiro Costa Leads Sundowns to 3-0 Win
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Ribeiro Costa was Mamelodi Sundowns’ shining star after scoring all three goals in their 3-0 victory over AmaZulu FC on Tuesday, 27 February.
Taking on AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, Gauteng, the reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions were held to a goalless first half by their opponents.
Come the second half, however, Ribeiro proved his mettle by netting an impressive hat-trick: he scored successful shots in the 48th, 57th and 78th minutes in order for Sundowns to win the match 3-0 (and also extend their unbeaten record to a whopping 40 league matches).
For his performance, the 25-year-old was given the “Man of the Match” award; for the rest of his team, they’re sitting pretty at the top of the PSL rankings with 42 points.
AmaZulu coach, Pablo Franco Martin, had no choice but to praise Sundowns in a post-match interview: “At the end of the day, this is a matter of quality; we’re playing against the best team, in my opinion, in Africa, so congratulations to them.”
Mamelodi Sundowns are now looking to take their winning streak to 41 when they face TS Galaxy next Wednesday, 6 March.
